Day 134: Tita Got the VIP Tickets
In the long line outside a K-pop concert at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan, cousins Nathaniel (A) and Bong (C), who came only as escorts, tease their aunt (B), who holds the VIP tickets.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Tita, you're the main character; wish we all had VIP. You might be the only tita in the whole line.
-
B
Salamat, iho.
Thanks, iho. And you two are the side characters holding my water and my umbrella.
-
C
Tita, the people next to us say you're the oldest fan in the line. You're an OG, respect.
-
B
Pinakamatanda? Pinakamatagal, iho.
Oldest? Longest-serving, iho. In my day, we lined up overnight at Araneta, with no Grab and no power banks.
-
A
Overnight? Who were you lining up for back then, Tita?
-
B
Basta. "Kilig to the bones" kami noon, presidente pa ako ng fans club. Ngayon, may lightstick na naka-sync sa Bluetooth.
Never mind. We were "kilig to the bones" back then, and I was even president of the fan club. Now I've got a lightstick synced over Bluetooth.
-
C
Tita, that's fire! But who's your bias? So we know whose name to scream.
-
B
My bias is the leader, but my bias wrecker is the maknae, the youngest. And don't just scream whenever you like; there's a fan chant, and I know it by heart.
-
A
Bias wrecker?
Bias wrecker? Bong, Tita's more Gen Z than we are. Tita, where did you learn all that?
-
B
In our fan club's group chat, and by my own hard work. A fangirl upgrades, iho, she doesn't retire.
-
C
Tita, you're our idol now. Could you teach us the fan chant before the gates open?
-
B
Sure, but it'll cost you: you two are lining up at the merch booth, and your bios say "fan" now, not "escort."
