Day 25 of 135

Day 25: Whose Name on the Barong?

At the embroidery workshop of Leanne (B) and her family in Taal, Batangas, Jillian (A), a young designer from Manila, comes to collect the barong Leanne's aunts spent four months embroidering for her runway show.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Oh my gosh, Leanne, it's gorgeous! This is my finale, the audience is going to gasp.

  2. B

My aunts spent four months embroidering it, and yours is the only name here in the program?

  3. A

Sorry, that's just the format, only the designer gets credited, but I'm not claiming the embroidery.

  4. B

Sure, you're not claiming it, but what will the audience think? That you did the embroidery?

  5. A

Okay, fair.

Okay, fair. I'll have the online program updated, and the host will mention your family.

  6. B

Mentioned, and once people walk out, forgotten. The barong goes home with whoever buys it; the host doesn't.

  7. A

So what, I put them on the label, next to my name?

  8. B

No need. I'll embroider their names inside the collar myself, small, but there for good.

  9. A

I like that. And at the finale they walk the runway with me, so everyone can see who made it.
