Day 27: Four Minutes Over on Air
At an AM radio station in Lucena during the local election campaign, Boy (A), its veteran commentator, comes off the air to find Sally (B), the station manager, with Kayla (C), the intern who times the interviews.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Well, why does it feel like a wake in here? Wasn't my show any good just now?
-
B
It was good, Boy, but Kayla has a report, and you're not going to like it.
-
C
I'm sorry, Sir Boy, Councilor Dimaano got eighteen minutes on air, and Kapitan Robles only got fourteen.
-
A
What's four minutes anyway? The soap ad earlier ran longer than that.
-
B
The soap isn't running for mayor, Boy. Your four minutes are four minutes of complaints to the Comelec.
-
A
Well, who dragged it out? He's the one who clung to my mic like a gecko.
-
C
But, Sir, three times you said, "One more question, Councilor."
-
A
Oh, that's right, I did. This kid's ears are sharper than her stopwatch.
-
B
Here's what we'll do: tomorrow, same time slot, four more minutes for Kapitan Robles, and you announce it on air.
-
C
Ako na po ang magta-time, Sir Boy, at wala na pong "isa pang tanong."
I'll keep the time, Sir Boy, and no more "one more question."
