Day 8: The Water Office Has No Water
On the second day of a three-day water interruption in a Laguna town, Wally (A), the water district's engineer, brings news to Glenda (B), head of customer relations, just as she is writing the statement for the afternoon press briefing.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Glenda, may update ako para sa statement mo. Pati tayo, wala nang tubig mula kaninang alas-siyete.
Glenda, I've got an update for your statement. We're out of water too, since seven this morning.
-
B
Ano? Dito mismo sa opisina natin, wala ring tubig?
What? Right here in our own office, there's no water either?
-
A
Great, even the water district's office is hauling water now.
-
B
Wally, this is no time for jokes. The briefing's at three, and the reporters have surely sniffed this out already.
-
A
I'm not joking. Even the GM brushed his teeth with bottled water.
-
B
Oh, I've got it. If this is going to come out anyway, we'd better be the first to say it.
-
A
And say what? "Dear valued customers, we're in the same boat"?
-
B
Pretty much: "We're hauling water too, which proves we're not hiding any." What do you think?
-
A
That's a winner, a smile but no excuses. Just add when the water's coming back.
-
B
Okay, and you're sitting next to me at the briefing. Bring your own drink. We have no water.
