Day 1 of 215

Day 1: Lolo Went to Card Day

Stuck at work, Bing (B) has sent her father, Rogelio (A), to her son's report card day at the public high school, and now he calls her from there.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Bing, nakuha ko na 'yung card ni Kiko.

Bing, I've got Kiko's report card.

  2. B

Salamat po, Pa. Pumasa naman po ba siya?

Thanks, Dad. He did pass, didn't he?

  3. A

Oo naman! Ang galing niya sa Math, ninety-two!

Of course! He did great in Math, ninety-two!

  4. B

Hay, salamat! Kanina pa po ako kinakabahan.

Oh, thank goodness! I've been nervous all day.

  5. A

Pero sa Filipino pala siya mababa. Tagalog pa naman ang salita natin sa bahay!

But it turns out his low grade is in Filipino. And we speak Tagalog at home!
