Day 209 of 215

Day 209: Cotton Buds Were the Problem

At a clinic in Pasig, Francis (B) comes out of the ENT doctor's room hearing clearly for the first time in weeks, and his girlfriend, Jade (A), who made him go, wants to know what was wrong.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

O, ano'ng sabi ng doktor? Naririnig mo na ba ako?

So, what did the doctor say? Can you hear me now?

  2. B

Oo, ang linaw na! Tutuli lang pala, ako pa raw ang nagtulak papasok.

Yes, everything's so clear! It was just earwax, and apparently I'm the one who pushed it in.

  3. A

Ikaw ang nagtulak? Paano mo naman nagawa 'yon?

You pushed it in? How did you manage that?

  4. B

Gabi-gabi kasi akong naglilinis ng tainga gamit ang cotton buds.

Well, I clean my ears with cotton buds every night.

  5. A

Kaya pala hindi mo ako naririnig! Dahil pala sa cotton buds mo.

So that's why you couldn't hear me! It was because of your cotton buds.

  6. B

Oo, pero mas tahimik ang buhay noong hindi kita naririnig.

Yeah, but life was quieter when I couldn't hear you.
