Day 3 of 215

Day 3: Half Pills to Make Them Last

At a small private clinic in Pateros, nurse Nimfa (A) takes the blood pressure of Lola Corazon (B) before her check-up.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

Lola, medyo high po ang BP ninyo, one-sixty over ninety.

Lola, your BP is a bit high, one-sixty over ninety.

  2. B

Ha? Umiinom naman ako ng maintenance ko.

What? But I take my maintenance meds.

  3. A

Buo po ba, o hinahati ninyo?

Do you take them whole, or do you cut them in half?

  4. B

Hinahati ko nga, para pandalawang buwan ang isang box.

Well, yes, I cut them, so one box lasts me two months.

  5. A

That's why it went up, Lola. Let's ask Doc if there's a cheaper generic.
