Day 38: We Can Only See the Ceiling
At home, Lola Delia (A) and Lolo Juanito (B), an elderly couple, are on a video call with their daughter in Dubai on their new phone.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

Kisame lang daw ang nakikita ni Liza. Sira yata ang camera.
Liza says all she can see is the ceiling. The camera must be broken.
-
B
Bago pa lang, sira na? Ibalik natin sa tindahan!
It's brand new and already broken? Let's take it back to the store!
-
A
Ang mahal pa naman nito. Nasaan ang resibo?
And it was so expensive, too. Where's the receipt?
-
B
Teka. Nakahiga lang pala ang phone sa mesa!
Wait. The phone's just lying flat on the table!
-
A
Hindi naman pala sira! Itayo mo, kumakaway na si Liza.
So it's not broken after all! Stand it up, Liza's waving.
