Day 44 of 215

Day 44: The Calculator That Isn't Allowed

At home, Lolo Andoy (B) gives his grandson Marvin (A), an engineering student, a present for his finals.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

    Lolo, calculator po? Salamat po!

    A calculator, Lolo? Thank you!

  2. B

Ibinili kita niyan para sa finals mo. Programmable pa, 'yung pinakamahal!

I got you that for your finals. It's programmable, too, the most expensive one!

  3. A

Pero nakasulat po rito: "Ang programmable calculator ay hindi pinapayagan."

But it says here: "Programmable calculators are not allowed."

  4. B

Tara, ibalik natin bago magsara! Ibibili kita ng iba.

Come on, let's return it before they close! I'll buy you a different one.

  5. A

Sandali lang po, Lolo, ako na ang magmamaneho!

    Wait, Lolo, I'll drive!
