Day 115 of 185

Day 115: Leaving the Ward for London

At the nurses' station of a public hospital in Manila, two young nurses, Nathaniel (A) and Valerie (C), tell their head nurse, Mercy (B), that they have both been hired by a hospital in London.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Ma'am Mercy, may sasabihin po sana kami ni Valerie.

Ma'am Mercy, Valerie and I have something to tell you.

  2. B

Kayong dalawa pa talaga? Saan, London o Amerika?

Both of you, really? Where to, London or the States?

  3. C

London po, Ma'am. Sa Marso na po ang alis namin.

London, Ma'am. We leave in March.

  4. B

Sa edad ninyong 'yan, nasa Jeddah na ako. Kahit na kulang na tayo, hindi ko kayo pipigilan.

At your age, I was already in Jeddah. Even though we're short-staffed as it is, I won't stop you.

  5. A

Salamat po. Kahit na mas malaki ang sahod doon, mami-miss pa rin po namin kayo.

Thank you. Even though the pay is better there, we're still going to miss you.

  6. B

Ang mami-miss ko, 'yung apat na kamay ninyo. Dalawa na lang kami para sa apatnapung pasyente.

What I'll miss is your four hands. It'll be just two of us for forty patients.
