During a Saturday cleanup of the clogged creek behind their street in Valenzuela, Sammy (A), who organized it, pulls out armful after armful of banana leaves next to his neighbor Edwin (B), whose yard is full of banana plants.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

A
Wow, there are a lot of banana leaves in here, huh? Looks like they all came from the same yard.
-
B
Why me right away? I'm not the only one on our street with banana plants.
-
A
Wala naman akong sinasabing ikaw. Napansin ko lang, parang tinabas lahat.
I'm not saying it was you. I just noticed they all look like they were cut off.
-
B
Okay, okay, it was me. I toss them behind my fence. I thought they just rotted there.
-
A
They rot, all right, but first they float down to the bridge.
-
B
I'll bury them in my yard from now on. Hand me a sack, will you?
