Day 169 of 185

Day 169: Preschool at Three?

At Sunday lunch in Lipa, Batangas, Trining (A), a retired teacher, notices that her granddaughter Mica (B), the young mother of a three-year-old, looks worried, while Mica's father Teddy (C), Trining's son, eats beside them.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Ang lalim ng iniisip mo, apo. May problema ba?

You're deep in thought, dear. Is something wrong?

  2. B

I was hoping to put Aliyah in a Montessori school, but the tuition costs as much as college.

  3. A

She's only three! In our day, children learned to read at home.

  4. C

Things are different now, Mom. By the time they start kinder, kids can already read.

  5. A

Take you: you learned to read from me alone, and you finished school.

  6. B

Buong araw po ako sa trabaho. Sino po ang magtuturo sa kaniya?

I'm at work all day. Who would teach her?

  7. A

Then I will. If she hasn't learned to read in a year, go ahead and put her in there.
