Day 185: A CCTV Camera Over the Scale

At a family-owned rice store in the public market of San Juan, Judith (A), the owner's daughter and new manager, asks Lucing (B), who has weighed and sold rice there for forty years, whether she has noticed the camera Judith just installed.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Aling Lucing, did you notice the camera above the scale?

  2. B

There's one on the cash box too. Your father never once doubted me.

  3. A

It's not you it's watching. I put it there so we'll have evidence whenever someone complains.

  4. B

Ebidensiya?

Evidence? Why, is someone complaining that my weights are short?

  5. A

Do you remember Aling Yolly? We had no proof to show her that you were right.

  6. B

Ah, 'yung nagsabing dinadaya ko raw siya?

Oh, the one who said I was cheating her?

  7. A

Opo.

Yes. Every weighing is on record now, so no regular will ever doubt you again.
