Day 24 of 185

Day 24: Five Kilos Over the Limit

Outside NAIA Terminal 3, Isay (A), who is leaving to teach English in Hanoi, finds her suitcase five kilos over the limit and starts repacking it on the sidewalk with her father Ernesto (B), while her grandmother, Lola Ising (C), watches over the food she packed.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Pa, limang kilo raw po ang sobra. Ano pong ilalabas natin?

Dad, he says it's five kilos over. What should we take out?

  2. B

Ang bibigat nitong mga garapon ng bagoong. Iwan na natin.

These jars of bagoong are so heavy. Let's leave them.

  3. C

Aba, hindi puwede! Damit ang iwan mo, Isay, hindi ang bagoong.

Oh, no you don't! Leave some clothes, Isay, not the bagoong.

  4. A

Lola, hindi po bagoong ang kailangan ko sa Hanoi kundi makapal na jacket!

Lola, it's not bagoong I need in Hanoi, it's a thick jacket!

  5. C

Mabibili mo naman ang jacket doon. Ang bagoong ko, hindi.

You can buy a jacket there. You can't buy my bagoong.

  6. B

Sundin mo na si Lola, anak. Ako mismo ang magpapadala ng jacket mo.

Just do what Lola says, honey. I'll send you the jacket myself.
