Day 26 of 185

Day 26: No More Thirteenth Month Pay

Over lunch at a mall in San Fernando, Pampanga, Elena (A), a call center team leader for fifteen years, shares some big news with her old friend Florence (B), who has worked freelance for five years.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Flor, magre-resign na ako. Magfi-freelance na ako bilang VA.

Flor, I'm resigning. I'm going freelance as a VA.

  2. B

Talaga? Maganda 'yan, walang biyahe at walang graveyard shift.

Really? That's great, no commute and no graveyard shift.

  3. A

Bagama't walang 13th month, mas malaki pa rin ang kikitain ko.

Even without a 13th month, I'll still be earning more.

  4. B

Kaso, ikaw na ang magbabayad ng SSS at PhilHealth mo. Wala ring HMO.

The catch is, you'll be paying your own SSS and PhilHealth. And no HMO either.

  5. A

Kahit na, mas gusto kong kasama ang mga anak ko sa gabi.

Even so, I'd rather be with my kids at night.

  6. B

Ang totoo, nag-a-apply ako ng office job. Nami-miss ko kasi ang may katrabaho.

The truth is, I'm applying for an office job. I miss having coworkers.
