At his sari-sari store in Imus, Cavite, Igme (A), its elderly owner, greets Lourdes (B), a home baker from the next street, who comes in carrying a tray of cassava cake.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
O, Lourdes, magandang umaga. Ano 'yang dala mo?
Oh, Lourdes, good morning. What's that you've got there?
-
B
Cassava cake po, Mang Igme. Puwede po bang magpatinda sa inyo?
Cassava cake, Mang Igme. Could you sell some for me here?
-
A
Magkano mo ba ibebenta 'yan?
How much would you sell it for?
-
B
Singkuwenta po ang isang hiwa. Makapal naman po.
Fifty a slice. They're thick slices, though.
-
A
Siguro hindi muna, iha. Baka hindi kayanin ng mga suki ko ang singkuwenta.
Maybe not for now, iha. My regulars might not be able to afford fifty.
-
B
Tikman po muna ninyo bago kayo tumanggi.
Try it first before you say no.
-
A
Aba, ang sarap nga! Dalhan mo ako ng dalawang tray bukas.
Why, it really is good! Bring me two trays tomorrow.
