Day 82 of 185

Day 82: Thirty-Six Months for a Motorcycle

At a motorcycle dealer in Cainta, Gerry (A) is ready to ride home on a new motorcycle on a thirty-six-month installment plan, while his wife Grace (B) does the math on her phone.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Grace, ito na 'yung motor. Puwede ko na raw iuwi ngayon din.

Grace, this is the one. They say I can ride it home today.

  2. B

On thirty-six months? I worked it out, we'd end up paying almost double.

  3. A

But my two hours a day on jeepneys would be over.

  4. B

With just a year of saving, we could buy a cheaper one in cash.

  5. A

Another year? My fares already come to almost three thousand a month.

  6. B

You have a point. Okay, the cheaper one, but twenty-four months at most.

  7. A

Deal. Basta ako ang pipili ng kulay.

Deal. As long as I get to pick the color.
