Day 84 of 185

Day 84: Post It or File It

At home in Muntinlupa, Rica (B), whose former employer still hasn't paid her last two salaries, is about to post the whole story on Facebook, company name and all, when her uncle, Tito Bayani (A), a retired union officer, stops her.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Rica, sandali lang. Huwag mo munang i-post 'yan.

Rica, hold on. Don't post that just yet.

  2. B

Bakit po, Tito? Dalawang buwang suweldo ko po ang hindi pa nila ibinibigay.

Why, Tito? They still owe me two months' pay.

  3. A

Puwede kang kasuhan ng libel kapag pinangalanan mo sila. Dahil dito, mas mabuting sa DOLE ka dumiretso.

They could sue you for libel if you name them. Because of that, you're better off going straight to DOLE.

  4. B

Bakit ko pa po sila poprotektahan? Sila po ang may utang.

Why should I protect them? They're the ones who owe me.

  5. A

Hindi sila ang pinoprotektahan ko kundi ikaw. Bukod pa rito, makikita 'yan ng susunod mong employer.

It's not them I'm protecting, it's you. Besides, your next employer will see that.

  6. B

Pero ang tagal po sa DOLE.

    But DOLE takes forever.

  7. A

Retirado na ako, kaya naman marami akong oras. Sasamahan kita sa Lunes.

I'm retired, so I've got plenty of time. I'll go with you on Monday.
