Day 86: The Monthly Water Test

At the water refilling station they own together in General Trias, Cavite, Edgar (A) suggests to his partner and old friend Salvador (B) that they skip this month's lab test of the water to save money.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Pare, laktawan muna natin ang lab test ngayong buwan. Matumal ang benta.

Pare, let's skip the lab test this month. Sales are slow.

  2. B

Sa lab test ka pa talaga magtitipid?

Of all things, you want to save on the lab test?

  3. A

Isang buwan lang naman. Malinis ang tubig natin, alam mo 'yan.

It's just one month. Our water's clean, you know that.

  4. B

Ganyan din si Mang Oscar sa kabilang barangay. Isang buwan lang daw.

Mang Oscar in the next barangay said the same thing. Just one month, he said.

  5. A

'Yung ipinasara ng City Health? Tatlong buwan silang hindi nagpa-test, iba 'yon.

The one the City Health Office shut down? They went three months without a test. That's different.

  6. B

Diyan din sila nagsimula, sa isang buwan lang. Kaya nga buwan-buwan tayong nagpapa-test, para hindi tayo maipasara.

That's how they started too, with just one month. That's exactly why we get it tested every month, so nobody shuts us down.

  7. A

Hindi ka talaga papayag, ano? Sige, dadalhin ko ang sample bukas.

You're really not going to budge, are you? Fine, I'll take the sample in tomorrow.
