Day 111 of 265

Day 111: Sunrise From the Deck

Before dawn at the port in Batangas City, Lola Dorotea (A) and her grandson Adrian (B) wait to board the ship for the long ride to Caticlan.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Bago sumakay, kumain muna tayo sa daungan.

Before we board, let's eat something here at the port.

  2. B

Opo. Kalmado po ang dagat, makakatulog kayo sa kabina.

Sure. The sea's calm, so you'll be able to sleep in the cabin.

  3. A

Ayoko sa kabina, dahil gusto kong makita ang dagat.

I don't want the cabin, because I want to see the sea.

  4. B

    Madilim pa po, Lola.

    It's still dark, Lola.

  5. A

Doon sa silangan sisikat ang araw. Panoorin natin!

The sun will come up over there in the east. Let's watch it!
