Day 122: Measured by a Finger

In the kitchen of the apartment they share, Princess (A), who has only ever used a rice cooker with markings, watches her roommate Pia (B) cook rice in a pot.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Pia, ilang tasa ng tubig ang dapat itakal?

Pia, how many cups of water should I measure out?

  2. B

Hindi ko tinatakal. Tantiya lang gamit ang daliri.

I don't measure it. I just eyeball it with my finger.

  3. A

Daliri lang? Baka malata ang kanin!

Just your finger? The rice might come out mushy!

  4. B

Dapat mong tikman! Buhaghag palagi ang sinaing ko.

You have to taste it! My rice always comes out fluffy.
