Day 153 of 265

Day 153: A Bike or No Cellphone

At the kitchen table in Antipolo, Cesar (A) and his wife (B) look over their son Ethan's report card.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Kung tataas ang average ni Ethan, bibilhan ko siya ng bisikleta.

If Ethan's average goes up, I'll buy him a bike.

  2. B

Insentibo na naman? Bagsak siya sa kasaysayan!

    Another incentive? He failed history!

  3. A

    Mahina lang ang konsentrasyon niya.

    His concentration's just weak.

  4. B

Kasi puro cellphone! Kapag mababa pa rin ang marka niya, walang cellphone.

That's because he's always on his phone! If his grades are still low, no phone.

  5. A

Payag ako. Pero kapag mataas, bisikleta!

Agreed. But if they're high, a bike!
