Day 225 of 265

Day 225: Personal, Even Confidential

One evening, Tala (A) answers her family's landline, and a polite young man, Dan (B), asks for her older sister.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

    Hello po, sino po sila?

    Hello, who's calling, please?

  2. B

Si Dan po, kaopisina ng ate ninyo. Laging voicemail po ang cellphone niya.

This is Dan, your sister's officemate. Her cellphone keeps going to voicemail.

  3. A

Kaya po kayo tumawag sa landline? Urgent po ba?

So that's why you called the landline? Is it urgent?

  4. B

Hindi naman po. Personal lang po, medyo kumpidensiyal.

Not really. It's just personal, a bit confidential.

  5. A

Kumpidensiyal po? Kaopisina lang po ba talaga kayo?

Confidential? Are you really just an officemate?
