Day 233: Sixty Years Since the Brook

At an eco-park in the hills of Laguna, Janine (B), a young guide, leads Mang Paeng (A), an old man visiting from Manila, down the path to the brook.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Iha, ito ba ang landas papunta sa batis?

Young lady, is this the path to the brook?

  2. B

Opo. Kung puwede po, kumapit kayo sa akin, madulas po ang dalisdis.

Yes. If you don't mind, hold on to me. The slope is slippery.

  3. A

Alam ko, dahil sa lumot. Kumaliwa tayo rito.

I know, it's the moss. We turn left here.

  4. B

    Hindi po ba kayo dayo?

    Aren't you a visitor?

  5. A

Dito ako naliligo noong bata ako, animnapung taon na ang nakaraan.

I used to swim here when I was a boy, sixty years ago.
