Day 249 of 265

Day 249: One Player Short

At the barangay hall, Chloe (A), the youth council chair, is signing up teams for the summer volleyball tournament when Caleb (B), a high school student from the neighborhood, comes to her table.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Caleb, lalahok ba ang koponan ninyo sa torneo?

Caleb, is your team joining the tournament?

  2. B

Gusto po namin, Ate, pero lima lang po kami.

We want to, Ate, but there are only five of us.

  3. A

Anim ang kailangan. Kung kulang, boluntaryo na lang kayo.

You need six. If you're short, you can just be volunteers.

  4. B

Huwag naman po! Isasali ko po ang pinsan ko.

Oh, please, no! I'll sign up my cousin.

  5. A

Ayos! Pakisabi sa pinsan mo, may pormularyo siyang sasagutan.

Great! Tell your cousin he has a form to fill out.
