Day 109: Pan de Coco Goes Viral
In the back office of a family bakery in San Juan that has been open since 1965, Arianne (A), a young marketing consultant, pitches a short-video campaign to the owner, Clyde (B), who has never posted anything online.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

Sir Clyde, the plan is simple: three short videos a week, on TikTok and Facebook.

B
Iha, mula pa noong 1965, hindi kami nag-advertise kahit minsan. Ang mga suki ang billboard namin.
Iha, since 1965 we've never advertised, not once. Our regulars are our billboard.
-
A
True, but your regulars' grandchildren are all on their phones now.
-
B
And what would you show them, me dancing in front of the oven?
-
A
No need for that. What we'll show is you making the bread every day before dawn.
-
B
Huli man daw at magaling, naihahabol din. Sige, subukan natin, pero may isa akong kondisyon.
Even the late ones catch up if they're good, as they say. All right, let's try it, but I have one condition.
-
A
Ano po 'yon? Kahit ano po, sabihin lang ninyo.
What is it? Anything, just name it.
-
B
You'll feature my mother's pan de coco, her original recipe.
-
A
That's even better than my plan. In the first video, you'll tell her story yourself.
