Day 123 of 160

Day 123: Solar Panels, Not Yet

On the roof deck of her house in Dasmariñas, Cavite, Nita (A), a retired bank teller, goes over her plan for solar panels and net metering with her installer, Felix (B), and an inspector (C) from the power company.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Felix, can the panels go up tomorrow? They're already piled up in my garage.

  2. B

Your paperwork's complete. All that's missing is the inspector's signature.

  3. C

Under the net metering rules, the application has to be approved before the panels are connected to the grid.

  4. A

So approve it. I was a teller for thirty years, I counted every page.

  5. C

There's nothing wrong with the paperwork. But Felix, take a look under the roof.

  6. B

Oh no. Ma'am Nita, it turns out the wood has termites, and it won't hold the weight of the panels.

  7. C

Even with the application approved, no law and no panel can make that roof any stronger.

  8. A

The roof first, then. I don't want those panels crashing down into my kitchen.
