How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Let's be frank, Denise: you'll be going abroad too after two years, won't you?
-
B
Yes, Ma'am, that's in my plans. I don't want to lie to you.
-
A
Then why should we even train you? What if you leave just when we need you most?
-
B
Would you rather I promised you five years, then left after one?
-
A
Of course not. But can you give us two full years?
-
B
Kaya po, kung may dahilan akong manatili. Ano po ang maiaalok ninyo?
I can, if I have a reason to stay. What can you offer?
-
A
You're the first one to ask me that. There's a raise after one year, and free ICU training.
-
B
E 'di panalo po tayong pareho: may dalawang taon kayo, may ICU ako.
Then we both win: you get your two years, and I get the ICU.
