Day 65 of 160

Day 65: A Stone in the Kidney

At a public hospital in Caloocan, Rey (A), a jeepney driver, looks at the X-ray that Dr. Kenneth (B) holds up.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Doc, what's that white circle on my X-ray?

  2. B

Bato po iyan, Mang Rey. May bato po kayo sa kaliwang bato.

That's a stone, Mang Rey. You have a stone in your left kidney, a bato in your bato.

  3. A

A bato in my bato? So that's why my back feels like someone's throwing stones at it whenever I'm out driving!

  4. B

How many glasses of water do you drink in a whole day of driving?

  5. A

Just two, Doc. It's hard to find a restroom on my route, so I hold it in.

  6. B

That's most likely the cause. It's still small, though, so it may still pass down into your bladder.

  7. A

Doc, if I drink buko juice, will it wash the stone out?

  8. B

Buko's fine, but water comes first. And a restroom stop is cheaper than surgery.
