Day 67: Read This Bulletin Aloud
At an AM radio station in Pasay, Mercy (A), the station manager, and Efren (B), a veteran anchor, interview Santi (C), a young applicant for anchor trainee, and hand him a bulletin on the nationwide earthquake drill to read as if on air.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Santi, basahin mo ito na parang nasa ere ka na.
Santi, read this as if you were already on air.
-
B
Huminga ka muna. Sa radyo, boses lang ang puhunan, kaya mahalaga ang bawat diin.
Take a breath first. In radio your voice is your only capital, so every stress counts.
-
C
Opo. "Isasagawa bukás ang sabayang pagsasanay sa paglikas kung sakaling yumanig ang isang malakas na lindol."
Yes. "The simultaneous drill on evacuating in case of a strong earthquake will be held 'open.'"
-
B
Sandali, "bukás" ang basa mo, parang tindahan. "Búkas" iyan, kinabukasan.
Wait, you read it "bukás," open, like a store. It's "búkas," tomorrow.
-
C
Pasensiya na po, kinabahan po ako. Puwede ko po bang ulitin?
I'm sorry, I got nervous. May I read it again?
-
A
Efren, ikaw ang magpasya. Sa totoong ere, walang ulitan.
Efren, it's your call. When you're really on air, there are no do-overs.
-
B
Isa pang beses. Noong una kong bulletin, "bukás" din ang nabasa ko.
One more time. On my first bulletin, I read it "bukás" too.
-
C
Salamat po. "Isasagawa búkas ang sabayang pagsasanay sa paglikas..."
Thank you. "Tomorrow, the simultaneous drill on evacuating..."
