Day 132: Compensation Day in Pola

How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Mang Vince, before you go out to the people, there's something you need to know.
-
B
Iha, three hundred fishermen are waiting outside. Give it to me straight: when's the payout?
-
A
Another month. Half the claim forms are missing supporting documents, so they can't be validated yet.
-
B
Another month? Nobody here has gone out to sea in six weeks. What am I supposed to feed my children, paperwork?
-
A
I understand. What's missing most is the FishR registration and the barangay certification.
-
B
FishR?
FishR? My grandfather was fishing before there was ever a BFAR.
-
A
The insurer has agreed: a barangay certification for now, in place of FishR. Starting tomorrow, we'll have a help desk.
-
B
Aba'y mabuti iyan.
Well, that's good. But it's still a month, iha; am I supposed to tell them to run up more credit at the store?
-
A
If their papers are complete by Friday, they'll be in the first payout, within two weeks.
-
B
Dalawang linggo.
Two weeks. You make that promise in front of them, not me. If I'm the one who says it and it doesn't happen...
-
A
Yes, I'll face them. But please stand with me; they'll believe it more with you beside me.
-
B
Let's go, iha. I'll speak first, so they see a face they know before the face from Manila.
