Day 33 of 135

Day 33: Pinoy Henyo With Lola Basyang

At a Christmas reunion in Sariaya, Quezon, cousins Miko (A) and Irish (B) from Manila play a family version of Pinoy Henyo against their grandmother Lola Basyang (D) and her son, Tito Erning (C), with the elders giving the clues.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

  1. A

Game na po, Lola, nasa noo ko na po ang salita, kayo na po ang bahala sa clue.

Game on, Lola, the word's on my forehead, the clues are up to you.

  2. B

Two minutes lang po, ha, Lola, start na po ang timer, go!

Just two minutes, okay, Lola? The timer's on, go!

  3. C

Inay, kayo po ang mag-clue, ako na po ang translator ng mga bagets.

Ma, you give the clues, and I'll be the translator for the youngsters.

  4. D

Hindi pa baga ninyo alam? Iniinom iyan, at mapait pa sa ampalaya.

Don't you know it yet? You drink it, and it's more bitter than bitter melon.

  5. C

Ibig sabihin ni Lola, pang-inom 'yan, tapos bad trip ang lasa, to the max.

What Lola means is, it's a drink, and the taste is a bummer to the max.

  6. A

Kape po ba, Lola? O 'yung iced Americano po na laging order ni Irish?

Is it coffee, Lola? Or that iced Americano Irish always orders?

  7. B

Excuse me, matcha ang order ko, pero wait, matcha po ba, Lola? Lowkey mapait din po 'yon.

Excuse me, I order matcha. But wait, is it matcha, Lola? That's lowkey bitter too.

  8. D

Ay, hindi ngani! Baging iyang pinakukuluan, ipinaiinom sa amin ng aming ina kapag kami'y nilalagnat.

Oh, no, I tell you! It's a vine you boil, and our mother made us drink it whenever we had a fever.

  9. C

Time's up, Inay! Pati po ako, hindi ko alam 'yan, nag-Tang na kami noong panahon ko.

Time's up, Ma! Even I don't know that one. In my day we were drinking Tang.

  10. D

Makabuhay! Ngayo'y ako na lamang pala ang nakaaalam, kaya panalo kami ni Erning.

Makabuhay! So I'm the only one left who knows it, which means Erning and I win.
