Day 35: Free Coffee for Life
Behind the counter of a coffee shop in Cubao on its fifth anniversary, Steph (A), the young social media manager, has to tell Maribel (B), the owner, about the promo she posted overnight.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

A
Ma'am, please don't panic, but we have a small problem with last night's anniversary post.
-
B
Maliit? E bakit parang nasa labas ang buong Cubao, Steph?
Small? Then why does it look like all of Cubao is outside, Steph?
-
A
Ang nakasulat po kasi, "free coffee for life" sa unang isang daan, at tatlong daan na po ang nakapila.
Well, what it says is "free coffee for life" for the first hundred, and three hundred people are already in line.
-
B
Coffee for life, huh? Here's hoping the customers' patience lasts that long.
-
A
The engagement is amazing, though, Ma'am. We've never been this talked about.
-
B
Wow, trending and going broke. Our anniversary is complete.
-
A
If we delete it, it'll get worse. It's already screenshotted in every group chat.
-
B
Hindi natin buburahin. Habambuhay nga, pero isang libreng kape tuwing anibersaryo natin, at may lifetime card pa sila.
We won't delete it. For life, yes, but one free coffee on every anniversary of ours, and they even get a lifetime card.
-
A
Brilliant, and for the other two hundred, a free cookie, so they don't go home with just the bitterness.
-
B
Sige, isulat mo na ang paliwanag. At mula ngayon, tatlong beses mong babasahin ang bawat post, habambuhay.
All right, write the clarification. And from now on, you read every post three times before it goes up, for life.
