How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

A
Good morning. Are you the owner of the bull in the third pen? How much per kilo?
-
B
Dos siyentos bente ho, wala nang tawad. Tingnan ninyo ngani, puro laman.
Two hundred twenty, and no haggling. Just look at him, all meat.
-
A
The going rate for live weight this week is two hundred, at any pen.
-
B
I fed this animal for two years, and that's all you're offering?
-
A
Mukha pong pinainom muna bago timbangin. Tubig po ang babayaran ko.
It looks like he was watered right before the weigh-in. I'd be paying for water.
-
B
Well, a cow doesn't drink unless it's thirsty, and it really is hot today.
-
A
Here's my offer: two hundred five, and I'll take care of the trucking to Tagaytay.
-
B
Two hundred ten, and I'll deliver him myself. I want to see the kitchen my animal is going to.
-
A
You'll deliver him yourself? All right, and there's free bulalo for you. You get the first sip of the broth.
-
B
If the broth is good, my next bull is yours too, no haggling.
-
A
It's a deal. But let's weigh him again later, once he's let out what he drank.
