Day 62: Round Fruits and Vision Boards

Minutes before midnight on New Year's Eve, at the house of Lola Rosario (A) in Pasig, she sets out twelve round fruits with her son Gilbert (B) and his grown children, Roxanne (C) and Jericho (D), while they argue about luck.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

  1. A

Gilbert, labing-isa lang ang prutas! Dapat labindalawang bilog, isa sa bawat buwan.

Gilbert, there are only eleven fruits! It has to be twelve round ones, one for each month.

  2. B

Relax, Ma, there's another chico in the fridge. Just think positive, promise!

  3. C

I'm manifesting, Lola, it's giving abundance. The Japan trip is already on my vision board.

  4. D

Ate, that's just Pinterest with a glue stick. Sorry, but this is all delulu, there's no scientific basis.

  5. A

I don't know what delulu is, dear, but God gives the mercy, and we do the work.

  6. B

Exactly, Ma! "Where there's a will, there's a way," that was my motto back in '95.

  7. C

Dad, that's manifesting too, just rebranded. Jericho, hush, or you'll block my blessings.

  8. A

Enough chatter, five minutes left! Coins in your pockets, because if you tuck some away, you'll have some to pull out.

  9. D

I don't believe in coins, no cap... wait, it's the countdown! Lola, my coins, quick!

  10. C

Akala ko ba delulu, Jericho? Talon ka rin, baka tumangkad ka pa! Lola, Pa, talon na po tayo!

I thought it was all delulu, Jericho? Jump too, you might still grow taller! Lola, Dad, let's jump!
