Day 63 of 135

Day 63: Two Generations, One Microphone

On the first night of a new late-night show at an FM station in Makati, veteran DJ Reynaldo (A) goes on air with Tin (B), the young co-host the station hired to bring in Gen Z listeners.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Magandang gabi, Metro Manila!

Good evening, Metro Manila! With me is Tin, the voice of Gen Z. Tin, as in tinig, get it?

  2. B

Hi, fellow night owls! Tito Rey, your joke was kind of cringe, but I laughed.

  3. A

Cringe? Noong '90s, "korni" ang tawag diyan, at ang korni, puwedeng gawing popcorn! Ayos ba?

Cringe? Back in the '90s, we called that "corny," and corny can always be made into popcorn! Not bad, huh?

  4. B

Your jokes are so Rey-tro! Night owls, are you Team Tito Rey or Team Tin?

  5. A

Rey-tro? Aba, matalas!

Rey-tro? Well, aren't you sharp! But in radio, Tin, what matters is a high Rey-ting, not how many times you say "slay."

  6. B

That comeback slayed! But careful, Rey-tirement might be next.

  7. A

Rey-tirement agad?

Rey-tirement already? You're as painful as my knees when it rains! Okay, let's read your texts.

  8. B

From Jomar of Pasig: "I'm Team Tito Rey, his corniness is my comfort food."

  9. A

Here's another, from Zia, Gen Z too: "Tito Rey, your jokes are the worst, but solid!"

  10. B

Wow, I'm the one they hired for Gen Z, but it turns out you're the magnet.

  11. A

Relaks, Tin, ang korni, parang adobo, sumasarap habang tumatagal. Bukas ulit, mga ka-puyatan!

Relax, Tin, corny is like adobo, it gets better with time. Same time tomorrow, night owls!
