Day 69: Be Positive at the Blood Bank

At the blood bank of a public hospital in Manila, medical technologist Judith (A) screens the replacement donors that Kim (B) has brought for her husband's operation: Brix (C), a young friend of her son, and her neighbor Tony (D).

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Ma'am, are these your replacement donors? Please write their names here.

  2. B

Yes, this is Brix, my son's friend, and Tony, our neighbor. We still need two more bags.

  3. A

Sige po. Brix, ikaw muna. Ano'ng type mo?

All right. Brix, you first. What's your type?

  4. C

My type? Someone kind, Ma'am, who knows how to cook sinigang.

  5. A

Blood type, iho, not your dating type. You're B positive? Then just be positive, it's like an ant bite.

  6. B

Tony, Type O ka, 'di ba? O, ano pa ang hinihintay mo? Upo na!

Tony, you're Type O, right? Oh, so what are you waiting for? Sit down!

  7. D

Hold on, Kim, I'm still shaking. Ma'am, is it true Type O is the universal donor?

  8. A

Lalo na po kung negative. Pero, Sir, 170 over 105 po ang BP ninyo. Deferred po muna kayo ngayon.

Especially if it's negative. But, Sir, your blood pressure is 170 over 105. You're deferred for today.

  9. D

Ay, hala. Takot po kasi ako sa karayom. Kim, pasensiya na, hindi ko sinasadya.

Oh no. It's because I'm scared of needles. Kim, I'm sorry, I didn't mean for this.

  10. B

It's not your fault, Tony. Ma'am, before noon, I'll bring you one more.

  11. C

Tita Kim, I have a classmate who's Type O too, I'll call him now. Let's just be positive, Mang Tony!
