Day 72 of 135

Day 72: GG at the Old Pisonet

At the pisonet shop in Pandacan, Manila, that Nestor (B) has run since it was an arcade in the nineties, he welcomes back Eli (A), a young pro mobile gamer who spent his childhood on its one-peso computers.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Kuya Nestor!

Kuya Nestor! PC number five is still here, the one we always fought over!

  2. B

Well, if it isn't Eli, the kid who cried whenever his peso ran out! I hear you're a pro player now.

  3. A

Yes, but this is where I learned to carry. My first GG was here too, in tears.

  4. B

GG? Walang respawn.

GG? In my day, we called that Game Over, and a life cost one peso. No respawns.

  5. A

So that's why your Metal Slug record only goes up to the first mission. Thrifty with lives!

  6. B

Hey, I was just giving the kids a chance back then! And you went AFK in your first Dota game because your mom called you.

  7. A

GG, Kuya, you win. But really, it was from you that I learned there's a time for games.

  8. B

Me? So why did you really drop by? You wouldn't leave BGC just to play at a pisonet.

  9. A

Our sponsor is opening a training hub for the kids of Pandacan, right here.

  10. B

Dito? Sa luma kong pisonet? Kalahati ng monitor ko, may guhit na.

Here? In my old pisonet? Half my monitors have lines across the screen.

  11. A

Everything gets replaced, with fiber too. Just one condition: you run it, because you're the only one who can get kids home before nine.

  12. B

...Ikaw talaga.

...Oh, you. All right, but in that hub, there's no Game Over, only Continue.
