Day 76: Digging for Vinyl in Cubao
At his secondhand record shop in Cubao Expo, Arnold (B), who has sold OPM vinyl since the eighties, lets content creator Hailey (A) film a "vinyl finds" video among his crates.
How to study this lesson 3 steps
- Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
- Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
- Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.
Dialogue
Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

Hi, guys, nandito ako sa Cubao Expo! Kuya Arnold, sobrang vintage po nito, it's giving lola's sala.
Hi, guys, I'm here at Cubao Expo! Kuya Arnold, this is so vintage, it's giving lola's living room.

"Giving"?
"Giving"? It's not free, iha, it's four hundred pesos. But the one you're holding is cool, it's an original pressing.

A
Oh, no, Kuya, it's just a vibe thing. But I really like it, the cover is so aesthetic.
-
B
I don't know about your "aesthetic," but back in the day that was for jamming. Smooth on a hi-fi, especially with the gang around.
-
A
Pang-jamming, so chill vibes po. Noted! Kuya, 'yung nasa dingding po, ano 'yan?
For jamming, so chill vibes. Noted! Kuya, the one on the wall, what's that?
-
B
'Yan?
That? My classmates' band from '79, they only ever made one record. It's been hanging there for thirty years.
-
A
Puwede po bang patugtugin? Wait... Kuya, 'yan po 'yung trending sound, sped up lang!
Can we play it? Wait... Kuya, that's the trending sound, just sped up!
-
B
Sped up? Binibilisan nila? Dati, kapag bumibilis ang plaka, sira ang turntable.
Sped up? They make it faster? In my day, when a record sped up, the turntable was broken.
-
A
It's huge right now, Kuya, but nobody knows where it came from. It's already a Gen Z core memory!
-
B
Ganoon ba?
Is that so? A minute ago my records were just "vintage." Now they're a "core memory," so the one you're holding isn't four hundred anymore.
