Day 109 of 215

Day 109: Mother-in-Law's Kaldereta

Over dinner at her house a month before the wedding, Adrian (A) talks with his future mother-in-law, Susan (B), about the food for the reception.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Tita, ang sarap po talaga ng kaldereta ninyo.

Tita, your kaldereta is really delicious.

  2. B

Salamat! Sa kasal ninyo, ipagluluto ko ang lahat ng bisita.

Thank you! At your wedding, I'll cook for all the guests.

  3. A

Lahat po? Dalawang daan po ang bisita, Tita!

All of them? There are two hundred guests, Tita!

  4. B

Kaya ko 'yan! Pancit, menudo, embutido, leche flan.

I can do it! Pancit, menudo, embutido, leche flan.

  5. A

Ipagluto na lang po ninyo kami ng kaldereta. 'Yung iba, sa caterer na po.

Why don't you just cook us your kaldereta? Leave the rest to the caterer.

  6. B

Sige na nga. Pero kaldereta ko ang bida, ha?

Oh, all right. But my kaldereta's the star, okay?
