Day 11 of 215

Day 11: Rice and Salt Go In First

On moving day at their new apartment in San Juan, Jericho (A) is ready to carry in the fridge, but his friend and new roommate Simon (B) stops him.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Simon, ipasok na natin 'yung ref!

Simon, let's get the fridge inside!

  2. B

Teka! Bigas at asin muna ang papasok, bilin ni Mama.

Wait! Rice and salt go in first, Mom's orders.

  3. A

Naniniwala ka pala riyan? Pamahiin lang 'yan!

You actually believe in that? That's just superstition!

  4. B

Pampasuwerte naman daw 'yon. Para 'di raw tayo magutom.

It's supposed to bring luck, though. So we'll never go hungry, they say.

  5. A

Sige na nga. Ako rin, may dalang barya, bilin ni Lola.

Oh, fine. I brought coins too, Lola's orders.
