Day 140 of 215

Day 140: Mango Seeds, Not Mangoes

At home, Darwin (A) watches his mother, Evelyn (B), proudly open the parcel of "one kilo of carabao mangoes for 99 pesos" she ordered online.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Ma, dumating na po 'yung parcel ninyo.

    Mom, your parcel's here.

  2. B

Isang kilong carabao mango, nobenta'y nuwebe lang! Bakit kaya ang gaan?

One kilo of carabao mangoes for just ninety-nine pesos! Why is it so light, I wonder?

  3. A

Hala, buto po ng mangga 'yan! Akala ko po binasa ninyo ang description.

Uh-oh, those are mango seeds! I thought you'd read the description.

  4. B

Akala ko mangga ang darating, buto pala! Huwag ka ngang tumawa.

I thought I was getting mangoes, but they're seeds! Stop laughing.

  5. A

Sorry po. Ano na po ang gagawin ninyo diyan?

Sorry. So what are you going to do with them?

  6. B

E 'di itatanim ko. Ako mismo ang mag-aalaga hanggang mamunga.

Plant them, of course. I'll look after them myself until they bear fruit.
