Day 155: A Table With a History

Julia (A), a young woman furnishing her first apartment, comes to pick up a dining table she found on Facebook Marketplace from Tina (B), who is moving to Canada after eighteen years in the house.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Magandang hapon po! Ako po 'yung kukuha ng mesa.

Good afternoon! I'm here to pick up the table.

  2. B

Pasok ka. Matagal na 'yan sa amin, mula noong ikinasal kami.

Come in. We've had it a long time, ever since we got married.

  3. A

Ang tibay pa po! Ano po 'yung mga pangalang nakaukit sa gilid?

It's still so sturdy! What are those names carved along the edge?

  4. B

Mga anak ko ang gumawa niyan noong bata pa sila.

My kids did that when they were little.

  5. A

Ipapa-refinish ko po sana. Okay lang po ba?

I was planning to have it refinished. Is that all right?

  6. B

Sa 'yo na 'yan. Pero sana, huwag mong galawin 'yung mga pangalan.

It's yours now. But I hope you'll leave the names alone.
