Day 156: The Toothache He Hid

In the waiting area of a dental clinic in a Quezon City mall, Clark (A) tries to back out of the appointment his girlfriend, Marga (B), made for his toothache.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Babe, parang okay na 'yung ngipin ko. Umuwi na lang kaya tayo?

Babe, I think my tooth is fine now. Maybe we should just go home?

  2. B

Kanina ka pa nagdadahilan. Kagabi nga, hindi ka makanguya ng kanin.

You've been making excuses since we got here. Just last night you couldn't even chew rice.

  3. A

Sanay na ako. Mula noong Pasko pa masakit 'to, e.

I'm used to it. It's been hurting since Christmas.

  4. B

    Pasko? Clark, Abril na ngayon!

    Christmas? Clark, it's April!

  5. A

Kaya nga ayokong pumasok. Baka bunutin na lang nila.

That's exactly why I don't want to go in. They might just pull it.

  6. B

Kapag pinatagal mo pa, bunot na 'yan. Kanina pa tinatawag ang pangalan mo, o!

If you put it off any longer, it'll have to come out. Look, they've been calling your name!
