Day 161 of 215

Day 161: Dropping the School Service?

Sitting outside the gate in their Cainta subdivision, neighbors Rodrigo (A) and Tirso (B), whose children go to the same school, talk about the school service van, which has just raised its fee.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Pare, nabasa mo 'yung text ng service? Dagdag five hundred na naman.

Buddy, did you see the text from the school service? They're adding five hundred again.

  2. B

Pangatlong taas na 'yan ngayong taon, a.

That's the third increase this year.

  3. A

Ihatid na lang kaya natin ang mga bata? Pareho naman sila ng school.

Should we just drive the kids ourselves? They go to the same school anyway.

  4. B

Tama ka, mahal na nga. Pero hindi naman tayo puwedeng ma-late araw-araw.

You're right, it's gotten expensive. But we can't be late for work every day.

  5. A

Siguro salitan na lang tayo, kada linggo.

Maybe we just take turns, week by week.

  6. B

Sige, pero isama natin si Pareng Ding. Mas magaan kung tatlo.

Sure, but let's bring in Pareng Ding too. It's easier with three.
