Day 178 of 215

Day 178: When the Pension Comes In

Mang Ompong (A), a retired security guard who rents a room in Malate from Rowena (B), comes to her with a request about this month's rent.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Rowena, puwede bang medyo ma-late ang upa ko ngayong buwan?

Rowena, would it be all right if I paid my rent a little late this month?

  2. B

Bakit po, Mang Ompong? May problema po ba kayo?

Why, Mang Ompong? Is something wrong?

  3. A

Sa Lunes pa kasi ang pensiyon ko. Pagkapasok na pagkapasok, babayaran kita agad.

My pension doesn't come in until Monday. The moment it does, I'll pay you right away.

  4. B

Sige po, walang problema. Pero may pakiusap po ako.

Sure, no problem. But I have a favor to ask.

  5. A

Ano 'yon? Basta kaya ko, gagawin ko.

What is it? If I can do it, I will.

  6. B

Mula nang umalis po ang guwardiya namin, wala nang nagsasara ng gate. Puwede po bang kayo muna?

Since our guard left, nobody's been closing the gate. Could you take care of it for now?
