Day 179 of 215

Day 179: Midnight Review Over Fries

Past midnight at a 24-hour fast-food restaurant on Taft Avenue, best friends Kayla (A) and Mayumi (B) are cramming together for the licensure exam for teachers.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Mayumi, gising! Nakatulog ka na naman sa reviewer mo.

Mayumi, wake up! You fell asleep on your reviewer again.

  2. B

Sorry, bes. Pagkabukas ko ng reviewer, inaantok na agad ako.

Sorry, bestie. The moment I open my reviewer, I get sleepy.

  3. A

Ganyan din ako dati. Pero nang subukan kong magsulat habang nagbabasa, nawala ang antok ko.

I used to be like that too. But when I tried writing while I read, I stopped feeling sleepy.

  4. B

Magsulat ng ano? Kokopyahin ko ang buong reviewer?

Write what? Copy out the whole reviewer?

  5. A

Hindi! Habang nagbabasa ka, gumawa ka ng sarili mong mga tanong, parang sa exam.

No! While you read, make up your own questions, like the ones on the exam.

  6. B

Sige, subukan natin. Pero isa pang fries muna, pampagising.

Okay, let's try it. But one more order of fries first, to wake me up.
