Day 191 of 215

Day 191: The Ledger Since 1983

In her last week at a hardware company in Binondo, where she has kept the books for over forty years, Rosing (B) is training Valerie (A), the young accountant who will replace her.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Ma'am Rosing, ano po 'yang makapal na libro?

Ma'am Rosing, what's that thick book?

  2. B

Ledger ko 'to, iha. Mula noong 1983, dito ko isinusulat ang lahat.

This is my ledger, iha. Since 1983, I've written everything down in here.

  3. A

Pero matagal na pong naka-computer ang lahat. Bakit pa po kayo nagsusulat?

But everything's been on the computer for years. Why do you still write things down?

  4. B

Nang mag-crash ang system noong 2009, ito ang nagligtas sa amin.

When the system crashed in 2009, this is what saved us.

  5. A

Talaga po? Kaya po pala ayaw ni Sir na itapon 'yan.

Really? So that's why the boss doesn't want it thrown out.

  6. B

Kaya ikaw na ang magsusulat dito simula Lunes. Huwag mong pababayaan, ha?

So starting Monday, you're the one writing in it. Don't neglect it, okay?
