Day 198 of 215

Day 198: Same Bus, First Words

When their early bus from San Jose del Monte, Bulacan to Cubao breaks down on Commonwealth Avenue, Lloyd (A) finally speaks to the young man (B) who has ridden it with him for months without a word.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Tumirik pa talaga. Pare, matagal na kitang nakikita sa bus na 'to, 'no?

It just had to break down. Man, I've been seeing you on this bus for a long time, huh?

  2. B

Oo, mula noong Enero pa. Ikaw 'yung laging tulog sa may bintana, 'di ba?

Yeah, since January. You're the guy who's always asleep by the window, right?

  3. A

Ako nga 'yon. Ikaw, saan ka nagtatrabaho sa Cubao?

That's me, all right. What about you, where do you work in Cubao?

  4. B

Sa Gateway Tower, sa eighth floor. Ikaw?

Gateway Tower, on the eighth floor. You?

  5. A

Ako rin, sa fifteenth floor! Pareho pala tayo ng building, pare.

Me too, on the fifteenth floor! So we work in the same building, man.
