Day 197 of 215

Day 197: A Mattress in a Box?

In their house in Meycauayan, Bulacan, Isay (A) wants to replace the family's sagging old foam mattress with one bought online and delivered rolled up in a box, but her parents, Agustin (B) and Marlyn (C), each have another idea.

How to study this lesson 3 steps
  1. Read the situation under the title. It says who is talking and how they know each other, which decides how politely they speak.
  2. Read the dialogue line by line with its translation, until every line makes sense.
  3. Spend at least 30 minutes listening to native Tagalog. It doesn't matter if you don't understand it yet.

Dialogue

Audio for this lesson is coming soon. For now, read the dialogue and its translation.

  1. A

Lubog na po 'yung kutson. Bakit hindi po tayo bumili ng bago online?

The mattress is sagging now. Why don't we buy a new one online?

  2. B

Bibili ng kutson online? Ano kaya kung subukan muna natin sa mall?

Buy a mattress online? What if we try some out at the mall first?

  3. C

Bakit hindi na lang natin baligtarin? Maayos pa 'yung kabila.

Why don't we just flip it over? The other side's still fine.

  4. A

Binaligtad na po natin noong Pasko. Puwede rin pong isauli kung ayaw ninyo.

We already flipped it at Christmas. And we can send it back if you don't like it.

  5. B

E 'di ako ang unang hihiga pagdating niyan.

Then I get to lie on it first when it arrives.

  6. C

Sige, basta ikaw ang magbabalik niyan sa kahon, Isay.

Fine, but you're the one putting it back in the box, Isay.
